Today our home learners group came over to our house for our monthly book club. We read Curious George Visits the Library by Margaret and H.A. Rey. After we read the book, I led the kids in a discussion about good library etiquette and about their favorite books. Then each kiddos was able to create their own book.
Supplies:
cardstock
copy paper
yarn
scissors
Directions:
1. Put the card stock and the copy paper together and fold together “hamburger” style.
2. Cut three tiny triangles along the folded edge. One triangle in the middle and the other two on either side about an inch from the edge.

3. Cut two pieces of yarn about the length of the folded edge of the paper.

4. From the inside of the book, put the two ends of the string through the middle and one of the outside holes. Then tie the two loose ends together on the outside.

5. Take the second set of string and put it through the middle hole and the other middle hole. Then tie the loose ends together on the outside.

6. Decorate the cover and write your book!
How have you made your own books?

Bookmaking is so much fun! Like the way you cut out the triangles to make the holes. This is very child-friendly and safer than punching holes. Great idea!
I tried punching holes for the first one, but it didn’t work. The triangles worked much better and looked better in the end.
