Totally 3: A is for Apples

Written by Mommy Cameron | Homeschooling

Despite being up since 5:30am or so, Thing 2 didn’t take a nap today so we were able to do school today.  Actually he was super excited about doing school.  When I asked who wanted to do school, he immediately jumped up and came with me.

Handwriting:

Using some of the pages from Confessions of a Homeschoolers Letter of the Week Curriculum, Thing 1 did some pre writing practice.  The pre writing practice is becoming too easy for him, so I guess I need to find something more.

Art:

What would the letter A be without talking about apples?  Thus, Thing 2 did an apple stamp picture.  I really enjoyed showing him how it worked.

Math:

While I was out looking for a math curriculum for Thing 1, I also found and decided to use a kindergarten math curriculum for Thing 2.  (More to come later.)  Today’s lesson was about counting with one to one correspondence to five.  So to incorporate apples into our math, I took out all of the seeds to use as our math manipulative today.   We practice counting a couple of times and then he glued them onto an apple that he put together from pieces I had already cut out.

Letter Activities:

The first letter activity was simply reading a book and having Thing 2 locate all of the letters A and a on the page.  He really got into this and would yell every time he found one.  It made me laugh and Thing 1 came downstairs to see what was going on.

The second activity was the letter A and a sort from Confessions of a Homeschooler’s Letter of the Week curriculum.  This was good practice for recognizing the letters for Thing 2.

The last activity was the do a dot activity also in the letter of the week curriculum.

I love Thing 2’s enthusiasm that he has for learning.  I hope he never loses it.
