Cook & Play

Written by Mommy Cameron | Homeschooling

Today our home learners group came over to the house for a cooking playdate.  It is no secret that all three of my boys love to help mommy in the kitchen.  So, I thought it might be fun to share our love for cooking with our friends.

Before our friends arrived, I set up our table so that there would be two groups working together to create a batch of Chocolate Chip Muffins.  I made sure that both groups had all the supplies they needed and put all the ingredients in the middle of the table.  It worked out great!

Chocolate Chip Muffins

2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 Tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg
3/4 cup milk
1/3 cup vegetable oil
3/4 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips

1. Pre heat oven to 400 degrees.
2.  In a large bowl combine all the ingredients, except the chocolate chips.
3.  Add in the chocolate chips.
4.  Put into muffin cups.
5. Place in the oven.  The mini muffins took about 15 minutes.  The normal sized should take 18-20 minutes and the huge muffins take closer to 20 minutes.
6. Enjoy!

Before we started, I went over the recipe with the kiddos. We talked about what the ingredients were. Where the directions were located and what they said.  Then we let the kids get to work.

They took turns pouring in the different ingredients.  They even worked on those motor skill by putting the muffin mix into the muffin tins.

Once all the muffin tins were full, the kids were off to play.  They did show back up for a few minutes to sample their work.

Have you ever had a cooking play date?
