Hike, Hike, Hike

This “winter” has been amazing. The weather has been great, usually in the sixties and low seventies. So we have been doing our best to get out and hike. Here are some pictures from out last few hikes.

Desoto Falls Hike – Round 3

The weather the last couple of days has been amazing, so I was itching to get out and do some hiking. Since the boys aren’t playing soccer right now it is the perfect time to head further up into the north Georgia mountains since we don’t have to rush back for soccer practice.

Last night when talking to the boys about going on a hike I asked them what they wanted to go see. All three of them said waterfall, even though the waterfalls aren’t as big this time of year. Desoto Falls immediately came to mind because it is a good distance at 3 miles and we get to see 2 falls. It also allows up to stop at an awesome place to get ice cream. Priorities.

We were the only people on the trail this morning and we had a great time. The boys all agreed that the falls were kinda weak, but they still had fun.

Girls Trip to Phoenix

Over the weekend Thing 4 and I headed off to Phoenix, Arizona for the weekend. We went for the celebration of life for my grandfather who recently died.

This was our first time to Arizona and Thing 4’s first plane trip. I would just like to say this girl did amazing. The only time she cried was after we landed in Phoenix and we were taxing to the gate. Crazy girl. She also received numerous comments about her crazy hair.

When we arrived Friday, my parents and aunt picked us up and after checking in to our hotel we headed off for a short hike to Hole in the Rock. Hiking here is definitely different from hiking in Georgia.

On Saturday after the memorial service and visiting with family, we went to hike Camelback Mountain. It was freaking awesome to be able to see so far.

After our hike we headed to Old Town Scottsdale for a little shopping and dinner.

While the girls were away in warm Arizona, the boys stayed home with Daddy Cameron and waited for the “snow.” Our house really didn’t get any snow, but the boys did get to spend some time together and do boy stuff.

December Hikes

Over the last few days the family and I have been on two hikes.

Tuesday, the kids and I headed out for a short hike in this wonderful warm weather. The boys spend the entire time talking and playing some game together as we walked through the woods.

Yesterday, Daddy Cameron was available to hike with us.

Gettin’ Our Hike On

Originally the boys were suppose to play in a 3v3 soccer tournament all day long, but that fell through. (I might have been slightly happy about that.) Instead the kids and I planned to go on a hike and have our own soccer tournament instead.

However, not everything went as planned. After I got all 4 kiddos in the car, I went to start it and nothing happened. So instead of heading to a state park to hike, we headed down our driveway and down the road to find a neighbor. Thankfully, there was a neighbor home who was able to help us out. We eventually headed out on an awesome hike in some amazing weather.

We finished the evening with a little soccer in the yard.

Morning Hike

The boys have been a little crazy the last couple of weeks. They have crazy amounts of energy. It seems like the more soccer practice they have the more energy they have. I know it sounds crazy, but it is true. However, that may be true for them in is not true for me.

Last night I decided that we had to get out of the house today. So after breakfast this morning we headed out for a hike, mainly for my sanity. Hiking is very calming for me and lets them get their wiggles out. I’m not sure my house would have survived if we hadn’t hiked today.

As usual the boys were a little reluctant at first, but soon this became “the best hike ever.” Now, just to let you know, they end up saying that at the end of just about every hike.

Thing 4 even enjoyed the hike despite it cutting into her nap time a little.

We saw a baby lizard, which Thing 3 contemplated making a pet.

Thing 1 spotted a turtle off to the side of the trail.

All three boys spotted numerous fish.

Thing 2 found this furry caterpillar.

I had a great time taking pictures, I just wish my big camera was working so that I could have gotten a few better pictures.

Animal Tracks & Scat

Today the boys and I had an interesting adventure. We learned about animal tracks and scat. The boys thought it was cool that they got to talk about poop without me yelling at them.

At one point they were asking for the different name for poop. Thankfully, Thing 2 decided to use a filter before yelling out the four letter word that he thought about.

We also enjoyed a short hike with a small waterfall. The waterfall was small since we haven’t had much rain lately.

Another Day, Another Hike

I know at the beginning of the year I had this great idea to do a hike every week. Well, that didn’t happen. Between several rainy weeks, a warm summer, and Thing 4, hiking just didn’t happen. However, I am happy that things are starting to turn around. Today, we all headed out for a short 2 mile hike. Here are lots of pictures, because besides being a pack mule I take pictures.

{52 Hikes} : 8

We are trying to catch up on our hikes for the year. Our goal is to get three hikes in this week so that we are caught it. Thankfully the weather is supposed to be amazing all week.

Today we hiked and geocached at the State Botanical Gardens in Athens.

Of course we have to start are hike with a group picture. Too bad Thing 4 only wanted to show us the back of her head. But don’t worry I managed to get a picture of her face, even if it isn’t the best picture.  She was really tired, and not long after the pictures she was asleep.

The first geocache of the day, and definitely the most creative we have ever seen. The boys thought it was pretty cool the way it was up in the tree.

Next we hiked along a creek for a while, wait, let me make this a little more accurate. Thing 4 and I hike along a creek, the boys hiked next to/in the creek. I was told by Thing 1 that it was great exercise.

While hiking in the creek Thing 2 spotted this snake sunbathing. Of course we had to get a picture…from a distance.

We then hiked along a river, not in the river. Where we located 2 more geocaches. If you notice, a couple of boys thought it was hot and that they needed to take off their shirts. They might have been influenced by a guy who was running without his shirt on. Oh, and did I mention it might have only been 75 degrees at the most.

After we found the third geocache the boys were done. “I’m tired.” “My legs are going to fall off.” “My feet are going to fall off.” So we called it a day. I had planned to do a little more and find a couple of more geocaches, but the boys were done.
