75 Degrees, Yes Please!

Today was another warm day and I loved it! I can’t believe how awesome the weather has been lately, especially for January. Since the weather has been so amazing it has been hard to stay inside, so I took the kids on a short hike so we could enjoy the day. (It also kept them from playing video games all afternoon. I know, I’m an evil mom.)

Paracord Bracelet & the Rest of Our Day

Thing 1 has been asking me for a while now to help him make a paracord bracelet. Well, today was the day, I finally got around to helping him make his first bracelet. I showed him one time how to make the knot and he got it.  Now if only tying shoes was that easy.

Once we were finished making his bracelet, we did our school work for the day.

Edisto Island 2015

Last week we spent another memorable week at Edisto Island. This was definitely the most memorable trip in that halfway through we went to a funeral, but despite the funeral the boys had a great time.

First Golf Tournament

Today Thing 1 and Thing 2 competed in their first junior golf tournament.  It was a great learning experience for both boys.  I was really impressed by many of the shots that the boys hit.  There were several shots that they hit that I know I couldn’t hit.

Waterfall Adventures!

This weekend YaYa and PaPaw came all the way from Texas to visit! On Saturday we headed up to north Georgia to see as many waterfalls as we could. I think by the end of the day we saw 7 waterfalls!  The boys were also almost an hour and a half playing in a river near a couple of falls.  Warning: Lots of pictures ahead…

Strawberry Pickin’ 2015

Today the boys and I headed out to pick strawberries. I wasn’t sure how the boys were going to react to the idea, but they were all about and ready to go almost as soon as I told them about our plans this morning.

When we arrived at the fields they were full of big beautiful strawberries. It took the boys 30 minutes to picks 4 gallons of strawberries.  I was super impressed. Daddy Cameron was very impressed when I text him that little tidbit. He only wished they worked that fast and hard at everything else.

Since we finished so quickly the boy asked to pick some more. So we came home with 8 gallons of strawberries. The majority of the strawberries will go to making freezer jam and eating. However, before I could start the freezer jam I had to make the boys some popsicle.

Thing 1 turns 8!

There is a lot of excitement in our household lately, however, today’s big news is that Thing 1 turned 8!  Where has time gone?  At the same time it seems kind of crazy to be pregnant again.

Thing 1 started the day with a few video games while Daddy Cameron and I made breakfast. Yes, you read that right, Daddy Cameron was home.  He worked from home today since it was Thing 1’s birthday.

After breakfast, because I am the meanest mommy in the world, I made him do a little bit of school.  I know a lot of other homeschoolers take birthdays as days off from school, but I always had to do school on my birthday.

Since Daddy Cameron was flying out this evening, Thing 1 was able to choose where we went for lunch.  He chose Chic-fil-a, so that they could play at the play area.

However, more exciting than lunch, was Thing 1 ordering his birthday present.  He has been wanting a tablet of his own for a while now.  So we encouraged him to ask for money for his birthday, so that he could buy what he wanted.  Between his all his birthday money and probably a little bit of his Christmas money, he was able to order the tablet he wanted for his birthday.  He is currently bursting for it to arrive.  Thank goodness for Amazon Prime, it will be here Thursday afternoon.  So to those relatives who sent Thing 1 money for his birthday, he says thanks and now you know where the money went.

After lunch, we came home where I attempted to make Angry Bird cake balls.  I tried, but it has been several years since I have made cake balls, so they looked a little rough, but all my boys appreciated my effort.  I eventually gave up and made just white cake balls and let the boys decorate them.  They were just as happy.

The rest of the afternoon and evening was spent playing outside, catching butterflies and playing video games.

Waterfalls!

On Monday, the weather was gorgeous.  The temperature was in the 80s and it wasn’t raining, so I decided that the boys and I were going to head north and hike to some waterfalls.

The first waterfall we headed to was Anna Ruby Falls, which is actually two falls that come together at the base of the falls.  The boys thought this was cool and the base of the falls was a great place to eat a snack, because the boys are always hungry.  The only downside of the hike to the fall was that the entire thing was paved and Thing 2 was not a fan.  He is much happier traipsing through the woods.DSC_1945

After we finished at Anna Ruby Falls, I decided it to take the boys to Dodd Creek Falls.  There are 2 falls that make up Dodd Creek Falls, and along the way there were lots of smaller falls.  However the best part of this trail was that the trails were natural and ran right next to water.  Boy paradise.  Their favorite thing was to launch “boats” into the water and try to follow them.  The best launch site was at the top of one of the falls.  All three boys had a great time, even when they took a fall in the water.  Well actually Thing 1 and Thing 3 took a dip in the water, but brushed it off as “refreshing” and kept it moving.
