Easter 2017

Happy Easter!

Cooking & Eating

I have decided that one of my goals this summer is to teach the boys to cook and bake. I have a couple of reason for teaching them to cook. Firstly, I would love to get some help in the kitchen. They are starting to eat more and more and I know it is only going to get worse, so anything they can do to help would be awesome. It is also a great way to have them practice reading and math. I might purposely hide certain measuring cups so that they have to do a little math. I am so mean.

This is the second week we have made something together. Last week was the cake. This week was cookies. We are going to work towards healthier foods, but I am letting them choose what they want to make first.

Today I tried a different approach to getting Thing 4 to eat solid food. After I tried to feed her first. I had Thing 1 come and try to feed her. However, that still didn’t work. Since we were at a loss, he gave Thing 4 her spoon and she tried to feed herself.

You can see what she thought about the food. It was apples. We have tried avocados, sweet potatoes, and bananas too. She will do everything she can not to swallow the food.

Since she did get some of the food in her mouth when she fed herself, I gave Thing 1 a second spoon and he continued to give her a spoon so she could feed herself. It still wasn’t a great success, but she did try more than she has in the past.

The boys also spent some time playing with Thing 4 today.

Catching Up

Obviously it has been a few weeks since I have written anything. Sorry family. Life has been a little crazy and at the end of the day, I am done. We have had soccer every night of the week. We have been working hard to finish up the last of our curriculum for the school year. Three out of four kiddos ended up with a stomach virus, and poor Thing 3 ended up with it twice.  However despite all that mess we have managed to have some fun.

We have built different things.

Made a cake and frosting completely from scratch.  The boys did almost all of the work.

There have been a few other adventures, but I didn’t get many pictures. I have a tiny helper who makes it difficult to take pictures. She really just wants to help.

Happy New Year!

Gingerbread House 2015

Today the boys and I built a gingerbread house.  I love watching them work, they get so serious.

However, I am pretty sure that the only reason that the boys like building a gingerbread house is because they like eating their work.

Oh, and we can’t forget our supervisor. I think the flash on the camera startled her.

Dinner By Fire

If you are around our property long enough, you will notice that there is always piles of stuff to burn. Tonight Daddy Cameron decided he was going to burn a couple of piles. Anytime he burns something, we make s’mores. However, tonight we decided to try something different and cook hot dogs over the fire.

Considering that the boys are not the biggest fans of hot dogs right now, I wasn’t sure how it would go. Thankfully, they surprised me and ate the hot dogs. Thing 1 and Thing 2 both ate two.

And the best place to enjoy a hot dog is sitting on top of your zero turn mower. Right ?!?!? Don’t mind Thing 2 shoving his hot dog in his mouth. I promise I do try to teach them some manners.

Now, of course after eating their hot dogs, we then got serious and made s’mores. It was a really cool way to spend the evening and it made dinner clean up super easy.

Paracord Bracelet & the Rest of Our Day

Thing 1 has been asking me for a while now to help him make a paracord bracelet. Well, today was the day, I finally got around to helping him make his first bracelet. I showed him one time how to make the knot and he got it.  Now if only tying shoes was that easy.

Once we were finished making his bracelet, we did our school work for the day.

Tonight, Thing 3 had his first soccer practice. Too bad I failed to get any pictures. Oh well.

First Eggs!

Tonight as the boys and I were getting the chickens put up, we discovered that some of the chickens must have laid their first eggs. The boys were super excited that the chickens were finally laying eggs. Thankfully, there were three eggs for three boys, otherwise I think we would have had some issues.

Reason Number 44 We Love Homeschooling

After what feels like weeks of rain and super cold for us southern peeps, we had a beautiful sunny day with temperatures in the 70s.  It was like spring!  So I did what any good homeschooling mom would do.  I kicked the boys outside for the entire day.  From 10:00am till dark (6:45pm), the boys were outside.  We would do a little school on the front porch, then the boys would play for a little while, then they would come back and do a little more school, and then head off to play again.  It may have been one of the most productive school days we have ever had, probably because the boys were able to learn like little boys need to learn, actively and with lots of breaks.  It also allowed the boys and I to enjoy this beautiful spring like day, especially since it is supposed to rain most of the day tomorrow. Here are some pictures of our day.
